Dementia in Practice (for groups)
Going beyond dementia awareness to build skills and confidence
Service Description
Safe and skilled dementia care requires more than mere awareness. Thanks to this course, learners will: - Assess different types of dementia and explain how each affects cognition, behaviour and function - Use techniques to nurture real connection and enhance wellbeing - Be proactive in reducing the incidence of distressed behaviour - Show confidence, assertiveness and compassion with people in distress - Show resilience in the face of stressful environments Why it matters: - Minimise incidents of distressed behaviours, agitation and aggression - Reduce the need for psychotropic medications - Boost staff morale and wellbeing - Improve relationships with family members - Reduce staff cost from sickness absence, agency cover and recruitment We keep our group numbers to a maximum of 10 to ensure emotional safety and interactivity Training can be offered at weekends and during night shifts. Course times are UK times but please get in touch if you are in a different time zone or if you have accessibility needs that mean you need a different time slot, we would be happy to work with you to ensure you can access this training.
